Bikers Delight of a Day
A memorable trip. Sun & Sand, Water & Boat along with biking delight with friends. All in one go. This is what you can call a day to hang out with maximum fun and minimum concern, of anything. So how it began. s usual with no planning in advance. As we are aware planning always fails if done in advance, because it gives time for some people to make their balance sheet for profit and loss (yup!!! even in such things).
Minor sway of the little motor boat makes the heart pounding. Slightly adjusted the weight distribution and got it balanced once again. The excitement of covering all views in one go, making all of us act or more precisely over react to everything what we see and what is next to come like tomorrow never comes. To some extent it was true. How often we get a chance for such an adventure. Rarely……. So the rush was to come into the frame of a little point and shoot for every background pattern on our retina. Even the naïve thing, we didn’t care to realize, made their ways to look again and shoot it before we cross. There was nothing wrong with us. The bottom line is that we were really excited and wanted to fill overselves the serene, calmness, tranquility of the gods own country’s woods and waters.
It was once again a useless boring Friday in office. Got out to have a cup of evening tea at one of ours Googly friend in the campus. This got extended to a shortcut dinner with additional friends as usual. With lot of off centeric-unwarranted BCs, we started discussing plan of the Saturday and dude! That was where we decided to go for an outing to kumarkom. One day trip and next day rest. So route map was drawn and onward journey was fixed. Return option was kept open to whether we could find some other route to return.
It was planned to leave early in the morning but we were able to start only at 8 am as there was a change in the option of bike to be used. Finally the old monk (Bajaj Wind2004 model) is brushed up.
We reached Vaikom at 0930hrs after covering 35 kms and decided to fill the fuel of life-a nice south Indian breakfast near vaikom temple. Another 30 km ride and we were there at Kumarkom Bird Sanctury. However there was a minor off –course after we started from vaikom due to our one of the over-enthusiastics Mr. Marvel and his new blood. Nonetheless we were on course shortly and reached the destination at 1100hrs.
We hired a boat for 1.5hour from KTDC restaurant at reasonable price (Mind it, in kerala there is no bargain worth of margin). It was to look around the canals and Vembnad lake (one of the biggest lake of kerala and some other greatness involved….) famous for its natural bird sanctuary. Although among us no one was an ornithologist , even though once sparked by chance, everyone were able to decipher the clan of these bird, but for me it was like some variety crow only….all of them.
All of us enjoyed to show each other our skills of photography. And I have to admit that whether accidently or else, there were really good snaps taken when we saw them on the PC back at home.
Fine!! Boating was over. Got refreshed and waited for the fried rice with Gobi manchurian which were ordered. Had light Vegetarian Lunch at KTDC restaurant just at the bank of the canal and below the bridge. Now the real fix or the fact was that where to go from here. As it was only 1.30pm, we had some more time before we really started to head back. Trying to use Google map for the next part of the trip, but to no avail. Finally decided to roll out and asked someone on the way towards Alleppy. We got or one gentlemen caught us to show the route to alleppy and had a lift with no question asked. This may be okay in kerala(pretended to be safer place) but one should avoid such surprises. However with no other choice we followed and we reached a nice bridge joining the two part of the lake-Kumarkom and Alleppy. As the view of the two sided lake was so good, we nearly spent an hour and there we were again looking for right direction as the Gentlemen/our guide left us seeing we were making him late.
Instead of going to the Alleppy we decided to head back, but looking for a different route as we were aware of the highway. As I have seen a route parallel to the sea coast from fort kochi to chertala, before my trip to Alleppy (with my antiparticle). Once a seed is born in Mr. Marvel mind, he will give it a try, and that is what makes him different. So manage to get a way from the Highway Signal at Chertala. We reached a beach called ‘Theyil’. Theyil is not a tourist spot it seems. Only fishing boats and rotting smell of fishes were covering the whole area. However once we get passed the boats inline, we had some fresh air to breath. It is a cleanest beach I have ever seen. With no one to be seen till far, we were at focus of few native onlookers. Regardless of these staring eyes, we spent nearly half an hour with snapping this and that and everything we can think of. It was quarter to four by this time and there we started the return.
Both sides of the road were occupied by the fishermen houses. The road was clean, freshly laid and devoid of any traffic. One car, few bikes and one truck were the only vehicle came rolling passed from the opposite direction. Shades of tree were almost covering the entire stretch of the road and even though it was around 5:30pm, the chilled air coming from the sea made us feel wonderful.
Soon we were in the fort kochi Island and into the city. Honking vehicle, jammed road and rushing people. The day is getting off and everyone is heading home for the nice weekend at home, So do we!
